New York City - for musical singers

New York City is a hot spot for the performing arts, but to get involved takes city savvy. Here's some tips.

New York City - Events

Visit the Drama Bookshop

The Drama Book Shop on 40th Street offers a haven for theatre, film, and cabaret people. You can subscribe to their email list for special events. The store has places to sit and read, and lots of relevant books and magazines, (some of which are available online as well on their website.)

Attend readings and workshops:

Check events schedules. I recommend attending readings and workshops where the small gatherings offer a chance to mingle and network. For example check the annual spring ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshops schedule on my site (posted each spring):

Readings schedules are sometimes posted on Playbill.com.

The American Theatre Wing hosts seminars www.americantheatrewing.org/as does Mercy College and others.

The Learning Annex sometimes offers courses on getting recorded, making it in music, etc.

Go to Seth's Broadway Chatterbox

Seth's Broadway Chatterbox is a cozy weekly event held Thursday nights in a cabaret space Don't Tell Mama. Seth interviews performers. Meet and mingle.
